Mirani is located 35 kilometres west of the main centre of Mackay, in the beautiful Pioneer Valley. The local area has rich fertile soil, supporting mainly cane farming and some cattle grazing.
The community of Mirani has recorded an increasing growth during the past several years as a result of the growing mining operations in the hinterland with families choosing to live in the town and travel to and from the mines for their work. Facilities are constantly being improved and recent new subdivisions have provided new housing for the increasing population of young families.
The township has a growing population of over 800, who enjoy facilities such as the Council Library and pool, private squash courts, doctor, tennis courts, museum, parks and gardens, hotel, retirement home, small shopping area, a golf course and caravan park.
Mirani State High School located in the township, attracts students from all primary schools in the valley. A private Kindergarten, affiliated with the Creche and Kindergarten Association of Queensland, is also located in the town.
