Curriculum

Mirani State School delivers a comprehensive and up-to-date curriculum program outlined in the School Curriculum Plan, which includes:

  • The Literacy and Numeracy Plan
  • ICT’s for Learning Agreement
  • Curriculum Overview
  • Intervention Plan 

The Literacy and Numeracy Plans are based on Education Queensland syllabus materials in these key learning areas and have been cooperatively developed and are updated regularly. Literacy and Numeracy are the foundation learning areas and as such, are the key focus subjects for all students.

The ICT’s for Learning Agreement describes the use of Information Communication Technology in our school. The Curriculum Overview gives more detail about the outcomes students will achieve in each year level.

Integrated class studies

Integrated Studies encompasses the key learning areas of

  • Science
  • SOSE
  • The Arts
  • Technology and
  • strands of HPE 

These outcomes have been allocated into four curriculum organisers:

  1. Who Am I?
  2. Communities
  3. Cultural Diversity
  4. The World Around us 

Teachers choose contexts within these organisers to deliver their class program. 

Specialist subject areas

Music, LOTE and strands of the HPE program are provided by specialist teachers.

Extension programs

Mirani State School has additional programs which support and extend student learning. They include:

  • Boys in Literacy Lighthouse Project
  • BLIPS
  • The Environmental Plot
  • Organic Gardening Club
  • Instrumental Music
  • Choir
  • Recorder Band
  • lunchtime clubs
  • sporting clubs

Additional school activities enable specific learning outcomes to be met through participation in bi-annual school Musical, Australian Cultural studies eg ANZAC Day, NAIDOC Week. 

Our policy is to use a variety of teaching techniques, a variety of learning approaches and a variety of learning resources to cater for the variety of children in our care.
